FAQ

What is Help-Portrait?
Help-Portrait is a movement of photographers, makeup artists and volunteers who come together to give, not take pictures of those who are in need.

Is Help-Portrait a non-profit organization?
Only in the US, it’s first and foremost a movement. A shift in thinking about photography. An opportunity to give photos, not just take them.

How can I get involved?
Head to the Get Involved page to see the different options or join our Facebook page to talk to other people involved.

I’m not a Photographer. Can I still help?
Absolutely. Maybe you can bring food, bring drinks, assist the photographers, be a runner, find a printing company to provide prints. There are lots of ways you can help out. Visit the Get Involved page

What if I have more questions?

What does a Help-Portrait event look like?
Based on the the last 4 years in Edmonton, here’s what we did: Setup started at 8:30am. We took pictures from 10-5 and then cleaned up until about 6pm. We have a welcome table where they sign up, while people are waiting for their turn, we offer them food and coffee or water. When it’s their turn, they go first to make up and hair, then wardrobe and finally with the photographer. Once their photo is taken, they wait for us to print it and give it them in the welcome area.

What about sponsors?
We strongly encourage to not make this a corporate event. It’s important that the participants feel that this is about them, not a PR event. However, if a company would like to sponsor the event, we’ll make sure their exposure is limited to what we feel is necessary to thank them for their contributions.
